Fighting Back

In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit — which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:16-17  CSB

What battles have you faced recently? A dispute with a friend or co-worker? A fight with a family member? A health fear?

Hard as these are, the fight I’m talking about is with our enemy, the devil. If you don’t fight with God’s weapons, you are headed for defeat and you will buy in to the lies of the father of lies!

We have a very practical and powerful battle plan listed in Ephesians 6:11-18. Here, the Apostle Paul lists five defensive weapons we have:

1.  The belt of truth: God’s truth alone holds all the armor together

2.  The breastplate of righteousness: not ours, but Jesus’ righteousness

3.  The shoes of the gospel of peace: we live in His peace and we are to take His gospel peace everywhere we walk

4.  The shield of faith: hold up not only your own faith in Jesus, but more than that, His faithfulness to us

5.  The helmet of salvation: this protects your heart, mind and soul from the lies that deny your eternal life

Then, Paul mentions the one offensive weapon we have: the Word of God! This leads us back to the first weapon we are to put on: the belt of Truth!  This is how we fight our battles as we cover it all with prayer!

Paul continues: Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

Take time to listen to the song, Fight Our Battles, if you can.

Lord, we know we cannot fight the enemy on our own. We must put on the full armor you have given us, every single day! Thank you for giving us your Truth that wins the battle for us.
