What Does Your Face Say?
As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.
When I was growing up, I imagined how cool it would be to have a videophone. This was a futuristic idea only seen on TV at the time. Well, it’s not futuristic anymore. It is common practice for the next generation.
The first few “face-time” calls occurred between family, and we laughed at our kids for the duration of these calls. There were not many words because they only made faces at one another through the magic of technology. We enjoyed watching all the silliness that ensued.
As much as I thought a videophone would be fun, now that it is here, I don’t like it as much as I thought I would. I am from the swatch-phone generation. I actually like the fact that the person I am talking to can’t see me. There’s protection and comfort when I am hidden.
The looks on my face tell just as much of the story as the words that come out of my mouth. I can hide some of my feelings if my face is not visible. Nonverbal communication accounts for about 50% of a conversation.
Proverbs tells us that just as our image reflects our faces, our lives reflect our hearts. When others see my life, what can they know about my heart? Do I have a bad attitude when things do not go my way? Am I rude and selfish?
Well, the short answer is, yes. But there’s hope for me, yet. I am not alone in this. Because Christ dwells in me, I have His strength to act according to His Will and Purpose.
The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen (1 Timothy 1:14-17).
God, help me lead a life that reflects Your love.
