God's Enabling Call

God's Enabling Call

The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

I Thessalonians 5:24

God called Jeremiah to be a prophet, a voice of truth to a nation who desperately needed to listen to God. God’s call to Jeremiah was clear. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:5). God created Jeremiah with a plan and purpose in mind. David wrote, For you created my inmost being…All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:13,16). Believer, that which was true for Jeremiah and David is also true for you. God has a definite plan and purpose for your life.

Though God’s call to Jeremiah was clear, Jeremiah initially balked. He argued, I do not know how to speak; I am only a child (Jeremiah 1:6). Jeremiah felt inadequate to do what God asked of him. What has God called you to do? Have you rejected that call because of perceived or even real inadequacies?

God assured Jeremiah He was with him and then touched the mouth of Jeremiah saying, Now, I have put my words in your mouth (Jeremiah 1:9). Do you catch the significance of those words? God Himself was going to speak through Jeremiah. What God asked of Jeremiah, He would accomplish. Throughout scripture this truth is validated: Those God calls He equips. The Spirit of God works in us and through us to accomplish that which He calls us to do.

Reread today’s verse. God is faithful! He will do it! So believer, shift your focus from your inadequacies to His sufficiency. What has God called you to do? Well, determine to move forward. Step out in faith, and you will see His mighty power accomplish things you thought were impossible. You will see your inadequacies melt away in light of His abundantly sufficient ability.

Father, though I am unable, You are able. I trust in You.
