The Cord

The men said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us, unless when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house.

 Joshua 2:17

Watching my daughter climb up the stairs making her way to the zipline, I could feel my palms starting to sweat and my nerves becoming anxious. She would glance over at me as she made her way up each landing and I would wave and shout how proud I was of her. I could tell she was just as nervous, but unlike her Mother, she chose to face her fears.

When Rahab met the two spies, I am sure she must have been nervous and fearful. These men served the God of heaven and earth. She had heard stories about how their God moved in mighty ways and now they were standing in her living room.

She chose to trust in their God and had faith that these men would keep her safe as long as the scarlet cord hung out her window. The cord was the key to her survival. Much like my daughter dangling from the zipline, her life was hanging by the cord.

Christ is our scarlet cord because of what He did on the cross. Once we put our faith in Him we can trust in His assurance, even when we are afraid.

Thank you Lord for dying on the cross for my sins and saving my soul.
