Reframe

Reframe

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Have you ever had a conversation that helped you reframe a current circumstance? Recently my husband’s comments about a difficult situation provided me much-needed perspective.

After we’d discussed the situation for what seemed like the forty-second time, he said, “This gives us an opportunity to trust the Lord.”

I confess that I had never thought of challenges this way. My usual response to a problem is to start the process of fixing it or finding someone who can. When I pray, I ask God to resolve it, because of course nothing is impossible for Him. I rarely ask Him for more trust as I wait.

Our current difficulty lingers still. I’m choosing to look to God, feed on His Word, and turn my anxious thoughts to Him. Since this goes against my natural impulses, I’m learning to do this day by day -- or to be more accurate, hour by hour.

Is there an obstacle in your path that challenges your faith? If so, how will you reframe it as an opportunity? Will you choose trust over worry? What Bible verses will you cling to on dark days? When your heart is heavy, will you remind yourself of what is true about God and His character?

Walking by faith doesn’t come naturally, but by God’s grace we can grow in that discipline. Ask Him to help you reframe and rephrase a challenge today.

Lord, thank You that even on my darkest days You never leave me. You give me strength to rely on You, even when I don’t see the next step. Help me to choose trust.
