The Wanderer

The Wanderer

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Matthew 6:26

Luna was “ours” for about a month.

We found her meowing just outside our door.

This wasn’t the first time we’d seen Luna. Sometimes she would lay around our porch. She had a collar, and we knew she had a family — just down the street.

This time she seemed hungry though. So we fed her. I didn’t have any cat food, so I fed her tuna. As you might guess, she stayed.

I called her real home after a couple of days. They thought she ran away because they had two kittens that she didn’t like. We had no pets, so she got all the attention at our house. Since they had other cats, the owners told us to keep Luna. They thought she would be happier being solo.

And she was — until we left for vacation.

I arranged for her original owners to feed her while we were gone. They saw her every day except the last day.

We came home, but Luna still hasn’t. She’s been gone five days now. We still put food out every day in hopes she returns. Somehow in only a few weeks, she became part of our family.

If I knew where Luna wandered, I would immediately go and get her. But I don’t. I don’t have all knowledge like God.

Then I began to think about believers who wander from God. He always knows where we are. Yet He won’t force us to come back to Him. He will certainly pursue us through circumstances, people, etc. But we must make a choice to return to Him.

If you’ve wandered away from God, rest assured that He still loves you. He created you, and He longs for you to return. We only cared for Luna three weeks, and she stole our hearts. God knit you in your mother’s womb. He loves you more than you could ever know.

All it takes is a simple prayer, something like this.

Lord, please draw me back to You. I know I’ve wandered. I don’t know how to get back. I trust that You will guide me.
