Mind Boggling

Mind Boggling

Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.

Psalm 119: 33-35

I could not believe my eyes and ears! On a popular cooking show contestants competed for a top chef prize. Their cooking determined who got to continue preparing dishes on the show or who went home empty handed.

As one of the master chefs came around to check on the aspiring chefs’ dishes, he questioned the temperature at which a contestant was cooking his meat. The contestant stated confidently and adamantly that he had no problem with the temperature and the dish would turn out great. I could not believe he refused to take expert advice and continued cooking his own way. Mind boggling.

No surprise who got booted off the show that night. His arrogance and lack of heeding good instruction led him right out the door.

Fortunately for me, God does not kick me out when I do not listen to His direction. I have to go through the consequences of my sin of disobedience, but I am still His child.

He forgives me and allows me to get back on the path of obedience.

The scripture in Psalm 119 tells me that when I keep his commands I will find “delight.” I do not think the contestant on that show found such delight when he had to take off his apron and leave.

Thank goodness God’s commands are obtainable through His word and His Spirit. He gladly gives them to me when I seek them. He loves me enough to forgive me when my pride and arrogance get in the way. Mind boggling.

I may not understand it, but I surely do accept it.

God, thank you for loving kindness in giving us commands which lead to delight when we obey.
