Faith to do the Right Thing

My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”, another, “I follow Apollos”, another, “I follow Cephas”, still another, “I follow Christ.”

1 Corinthians 1: 11-12

In this verse we learn about a household who stood up against peer pressure over taking sides of who to follow. The early church in Corinth was becoming divided over whose teachings they should follow. They no longer looked at Christ as the Almighty leader, but one among many.

Chloe and her household saw the division and decided to take action. They saw the church crumbling as quarrels escalated, causing unity to be broken. Chloe knew she could not keep quiet about this, and sought to find help. It was Paul’s prayer that the church would agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions and that you be perfectly united in mind and thought (1 Corinthians 1: 10).

It is obvious that this special family cared about their church. They saw the evil schemes of Satan trying to tear apart the gospel and water it down. They went against the crowd, with faith to do the right thing, and stand for Christ. They realized faith required action. James 2:26, reminds us of this,” As the body with the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”

Lord, I thank You for Chloe and her household. I pray that my faith allows me to take action and stand up for what is right.
