Strong Roots

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 2:6

2020, what a rough year for our family. And guess what? Nothing that happened had anything to do with Covid.

It started off with our grandson having a horrible case of the flu. In the same week a sonogram showed no heartbeat in the baby our daughter carried. Our other daughter had to deal with a significant financial loss. My mother went into assisted living and my father-in-law’s health declined significantly.

I am sure you could tell similar stories of the difficulties of 2020. Things went wrong like we never imagined. So many things changed and seemed to wreak havoc in our lives. Stress upon stress mounted, what was one to do?

Satan, the enemy, would love for us to hang our heads in despair, allow our faith to become weak, and give up. He would love for us to doubt the goodness of God.

But God, our all-powerful God, says no matter what happens “continue to live your lives in him.” Rooted in him, we receive his strength. Our faith will build not crumble. We will stand firm not crushed.

Thankfulness propels us even further. It gives us a positive outlook in the midst of negative circumstances. It lifts our eyes off of ourselves and up on him. Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Friends, let’s “continue to live our lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith, and overflowing with thankfulness” as Colossians 2:6 tells us. Continue means we should not stop, but keep on trusting in him. God does not promise us easy, but he does promise to walk along beside us during the good and the bad.

Father, if we have accepted you, you are our strong foundation. You give us deep roots to keep us strong during any and all circumstances. We praise your name. We thank you for your faithfulness.
