Inventory

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

Spring cleaning has taken on a new meaning these days. Closets, drawers and attics have been reorganized. Our yards and gardens may be looking better than years before. Surely there is some comfort gained while our to-do lists dwindle. But some people are entering into a restless phase while this virus continues to take center stage in our lives. I have begun to sigh when I hear the morose acronym...COVID-19.

However, as we continue to work together in states and communities to support healthcare workers caring for patients, we are united. The Church is flourishing with renewal and revival. Children have deepened their relationship with their parents while learning at home. Parents have been given extra measures of creativity and patience as they take on the role of teacher and worker from home. We have come together as a nation to pray for the sick and grieve with the families who have suffered loss. God has even smiled on the advancement of technology by allowing us to stay connected and encouraged. We have Zoomed!

Earlier this week I have discussed the possibility of moving forward in the unique way God has planned for you. Is it time for you to take an inventory of your spiritual life? Just as we have cleaned out our physical stuff, let’s work on the clutter that robs us of joy and peace. Fear, worry, anger, unhealthy habits, apathy, stubbornness, prejudice, negativity, greed, or unbelief are just a few of our human weaknesses. Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy (Proverbs 28:13).

I encourage you to commit to a higher level of personal Bible study. Make an appointment with God every day to praise him and to pray. Forgive someone who hurt you. Befriend someone who needs help. Practice generosity. Ask for help, if needed. Be honest. Laugh more. Be still. Cease striving. Breathe. Let go. Welcome peace, hope and joy.
