“Forever” It’s Hard to Imagine!

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

I’ve allowed an “at-my-fingertips” resource to change my world. It’s quieted the angst of temporarily boxing up my favorite commentaries and study resources—old friends indeed. I knew this “world” existed, the world of digital Bible commentaries, but my books and familiar ways held me captive! I’d compared scripture translations using Bible apps for some time, but a shockinging fruitful resource hid behind the “Commentaries” tab. Forty resources awaited me to shed light on the phrase I was examining in the Lord’s prayer, the power and the glory forever.

I discovered my English word, forever, limited this mind-boggling concept. Here are some of my gleanings:

The Greek means “to the forevers”

“Taking in the whole duration of time”

“The “second” ever, the whole of eternity”

“May God’s name have the glory both in this world and in that which is to come!”

The Clark commentary includes “There is no word in any language which more forcibly points out the grand characteristic of eternity—that which always exists.”

I also discovered that the word “evermore” can mean “for ever and more,” which represents the whole of time and the duration beyond it.”

“For ever and more.” What can be more than “forever?” That would be God, the one who Jesus prayed would receive power and glory here on earth and forever and more! Wow! What a God we serve. How blessed we are to have such ready resources available to us in this generation.

Lord, make me a worthy steward of what You have made available to me. May what I tuck away in my heart produce fruit for your Glory—for ever and more!
