Prayer Plus Worship

Prayer Plus Worship

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible….

Colossians 1:16

While viewing a program featuring marine life that inhabits coral reefs, I recalled my sister’s tabletop aquarium. Names of her tropical fish flooded my mind—Guppies, Mollies, Swordtails, Tetras and the ever-graceful Angelfish. I instantly moved closer to the television screen mesmerized by their beauty as they swam in their natural habitats.

I exclaimed in delight over the diversity of shapes, colors, sizes, and navigation styles. Reflecting my awe and wonder to God for His underwater creativity felt like worship. Verbally sharing my delight to Him also felt like prayer!

The experience added a new dimension of spontaneous joy to other conversations with my Heavenly Father over the brilliant blue of a Morning Glory blossom, the whimsy of baby lizards, the purple and yellow polka dots on a butterfly wing, and the soothing cooing of a Mourning Dove.

Scripture records that God saw all that he had made and it was very good (Genesis 1:31). Each day immerses me in that goodness, but I only experience it when I pause to truly “see” it. I also sense God’s joy in sharing His creative works of art with me!

Father, thank you for the opportunity to see the wonders of your creation that generations before me never saw—the beauty of the underwater world of coral reefs. Teach me how to honor these gifts that technology has brought into my life. May the wonders of Your workmanship draw my heart ever closer to Yours. In Your Creator Son’s name, Jesus, I pray, amen.
