Light It Up!
For God who said, “Let light shine out of the darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6 NIV
What a blessed Thanksgiving we had. Eight adults and 6 children at our table, the merriment delighted us. Soon, after everyone left and the clean up had taken place, out came the pre-lit Christmas tree. Much to my dismay, half of the lights did not shine.
Even after my wonderful day, my toddler temper came out. “I will NOT string new lights on that tree! I want a new one!” As I made that remark out loud to my husband, I think I saw him roll his eyes at me. He wisely did not respond.
I did not even want to decorate the half-lit thing and let it sit there for a week. Finally, I did go to our favorite Hobby Lobby to look for a new tree, but had to admit the expense not worth it. So, what did I do? I bought lights and strung them in the dark spots on the tree. Once again beautiful, I added the decorations feeling pretty much ashamed at my attitude before.
Fortunately for us, God did not spare any expense to bring light in the darkness of our world. He sent his very own Son into it, God in flesh, to pierce the darkness and bring us Salvation. What an amazing gift to celebrate this Christmas!
Our enemy Satan would prefer us to focus on the darkness, not the light, but oh what a tragedy that would be. Even though the darkness of the world may affect us, it has no power over us because God’s powerful light shines brighter.
As believers, through his Holy Spirit, God’s light shines in our hearts. Fortunately, others can see that light even when we may not realize it. That is how powerful it is.
God, thank You for sharing Your Glory with us. May Your light shine brightly and illuminate this Christmas season with love and peace and joy.
