Legacy
Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord.
Psalm 22:30 NLT
One of my favorite things to do with my little granddaughter is to sing Bible songs with her sing along book. She is only one year old and I am the only one singing, but she is smiling and clapping as “we” sing “Jesus Loves Me.”
You might wonder why I tell her about Jesus now. Isn’t there plenty of time later?
I concluded that she is the next generation and she still needs to hear about Jesus. So, if I want her to see Jesus living through me, I have to start now. If I want her to see Jesus in my actions, my words and my attitudes, it is best to show her my relationship with Jesus when it is lived out daily.
I recently heard this question, “Do those who know you the best, love you the most?”
That is a good question! And it means those that I am around the most often and who witness the worst of me, do they still love me – not because they have to – but because they want to? For me, this would only happen if others see Christ in me because of my relationship with Jesus.
This is the legacy I want to leave to the future generations…
Our children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done (Psalm 22:30-31 NLT).
The future generation needs to hear about Jesus and to trust Him. How I model my relationship with Jesus will influence those I am around. If I share the truth of Jesus, but don’t live it out myself, what kind of witness will that be? Why should anyone listen to me?
But, if I tell the future generation about Jesus and live out a lifestyle that models a real relationship with Jesus… now… that is someone to listen to!
Psalm 22 describes Jesus’ death on the cross. It concludes that these wonders of the Lord and His righteous acts are to be told to the future generations so all will hear about everything God has done to reconcile us to Himself and save us from a life eternally separated from Him.
Who can you tell today?
Father, in the quiet of my heart You speak to me… whispering ‘Tell the next generation about Me.’ Lord, please give me the wisdom and sensitivity to share the truth of Jesus well. Thank You for entrusting this task to me and giving me the opportunity to share with the precious children in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
