What is… The Best Gift?
For everyone who asks, receives.
Luke 11:10 NLT
With children, squeals of delight, happy wiggles, clapping hands, smiles and laughter can accompany the opening of gifts! I am not sure who enjoys it more… the recipient or the gift giver!
Recently, I had the cutest experience of giving Easter gifts to my granddaughter. She is only two years old. She was not expecting any gifts. Once she understood she was receiving gifts, all the joyful expressions began! She could not contain herself! It was adorable!
These gleeful expressions of excitement made me think of the good gift from our heavenly Father that He is ready to share with His children…
(Jesus is speaking.) And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened… So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him (Luke 11:9-10, 13 NLT).
Jesus explains that if I keep on asking, seeking and knocking for things from a worldly perspective that I think have purpose or that I think are wise, I will probably be disappointed.
Jesus shares there is a better gift I should ask for. I am to ask the heavenly Father for… the Holy Spirit.
If I have the Holy Spirit helping me, then I will be led by the Spirit to ask, seek, and knock for the things that align with the Father and His will. These requests will be much better than anything I would ask for without the Holy Spirit’s help.
And the Father is happily ready to share His gift with you and me!
Father, in the quiet of my heart, You speak to me whispering, “As My child, I give you my Holy Spirit to lead and guide you.” Lord, thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit. He is the best gift I could receive from You. In Jesus name, amen.
