What Warnings Are You Ignoring?
Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
I Peter 5:8, NIV
On the way to my backyard one day, I stopped in my tracks.
In the corner of my eye, I saw a snakeskin trapped among the rocks by our sidewalk. A very long one.
It reminds me there is a very real and present danger around my yard.
Is it hiding in the bushes? Ready to strike as I walk by?
Two weeks have gone by since I first saw the snakeskin. I haven’t seen a live one yet.
However, the skin reminds me to stay alert.
The Bible warns us we have a spiritual enemy lurking too. And like the snakeskin, we can see warnings. Those might include conviction, a scripture that stands out, or a friend’s concern.
First, do we recognize the warnings? Then, do we ignore them or take heed?
If I ignored the fact that I live around snakes, I would probably get bitten. We have seen snakes all around our house — one time even in the kitchen. (I feel like some of you are wondering why I haven’t moved yet.)
Lord, protect us from the evil one. Deliver us from the devil’s schemes. Give us discernment and open our eyes around us. Please help us to be sensitive to Your Holy Spirit.
