Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

Revelation 3:20

A song touched my heart today. Rich lyrics tell the story of a motley crew of misfits who have accepted an invitation to come and share—to “come to the table.”

The writers, Sidewalk Prophets, talk about their song this way:

We are the lost children of God, and we need to come back home.

And so Come To The Table” is for everybody…its for those that are uncouth, its for the thieves, the liars, the doubters, the sinners.

Many of us are afraid to reveal our imperfections to others. The transparency found only in Christ’s way is what it means to come to His Table. Forgiveness, through grace, is offered abundantly when sincere redemption is accepted.

The subject of redemption may seem vast and complicated to the person who doesn’t yet need or want to find another way to live. Their lives haven’t reached the point of desperation.

They might say, “I’m good. I’m fine just the way I am.”

Jesus of Nazareth, while living on earth, offered the same invitation to a diverse circle of chosen followers—surely the first motley crew. He invited them to move toward a different life than they were living. Christ’s offer was about Kingdom living with the ultimate bonus of eternal life.

Jesus prayed, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done in earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10 KJV)

Won’t you accept the same invitation today? I encourage you to take your first step.  Just pray this simple prayer:

Jesus, I accept your invitation to come to Your Table. Would you host me there and show me your ways? I want to receive your offer of redemption, fellowship and the promise of eternal life.
