The Blind Man’s Christmas Story

The Blind Man’s Christmas Story

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world

John 1:9

“…One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (John 9:25)

The blind man tells the story of Christmas. He was born in darkness and remained in darkness… until Jesus came to him. In his hopeless state, the blind man couldn’t come to Jesus, so Jesus came to him.

One word from Jesus could have brought healing; but instead, Jesus birthed faith in the blind man. Jesus placed mud on his eyes and instructed him to wash in the pool of Siloam. The blind man obeyed, and his physical eyes were opened to see the world around him. But more importantly, his spiritual eyes were opened to see Jesus as the Son of Man, the true Light from heaven. (John 9:1-38)

How does this man’s story parallel the Christmas story? We, like the blind man, are born in darkness, spiritually blind to God’s truth. The darkness within robs us of the ability to understand who Jesus truly is. (John 1:5) But on one glorious night, God’s Light shattered the darkness!

As shepherds were in the fields tending their flocks, the glory of the Lord shone around them announcing the birth of Jesus Christ. The true Light from heaven had come! Because man was hopelessly bound by darkness and could not come to God, God came to man.

Even as Jesus birthed faith in the man who had been blind, so Jesus births faith in those who seek Him. The Light of the world gives light to our blinded eyes so that we might see Him as the Son of God, the Savior sent to rescue us from darkness.

What is your testimony? Can you, like the blind man, say, “I was blind, but now I see”? Have you come to personally know Jesus, the Light of the world and the Deliverer from darkness?

Jesus, thank you for giving sight to our blinded eyes that we might see you as Lord and Savior.
