Our Redeemer

Our Redeemer

I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

Job 19:25

Job uttered these words, “I know my redeemer lives.” Job, of all people – deathly ill, loss of children, misunderstood by friends. Those words did not come at the end of his struggles -- he spoke them in the midst of them. What an encouraging testimony!

Praise God, our redeemer. He redeems us by his offer of salvation and our acceptance of that offer. He redeems us from our past. He redeems us from making the same generational mistakes made by our ancestors. What Satan meant for dysfunction; God can redeem for his glory. God offers his redemption graciously.

Job clung to that promise in faith throughout his horrible ordeal. He had to defend his faith to his friends and even to his own wife. How that must have made his agony even worse. He must have felt so alone. Yet, he had faith that his redeemer stood right beside him the whole time and would never abandon him.

We too must cling to that same promise. We must cling to that same kind of faith. We know our redeemer lives and we know that in the end -- he wins. We will participate in that victory if we have accepted his offer of salvation.

I used to skip over the story of Job because of the sadness of it. I missed the whole point of the book by doing so. Maybe Satan intended for me to miss it. Now, I read it with compassion in my heart. I honor the faith of Job. I praise God, our Father, because of it. I revel in the victory over the enemy both then, now, and in the future.

Our redeemer lives. God will stand on the earth in the end! He will defeat every foe!

God, although the book of Job may not be the easiest book in the Bible to read, thank you for including it. Thank you for its story of your redeeming love.
