Promises-Promises

Promises-Promises

The Lord will always lead you, satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones.

Isaiah 58:11

God’s heart is for His people. We saw that yesterday when He told us the kind of fast in which He approves. One that involves setting people free from heavy burdens, and sharing with the hungry and homeless. Today, let’s look at His beautiful promises when we love others in these ways.

Then your light will appear like the dawn,

and your recovery will come quickly.

Your righteousness will go before you,

and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard.

At that time, when you call, the Lord will answer,

when you cry out, he will say, ‘Here I am.’

If you get rid of the yoke among you,

the finger-pointing and malicious speaking,

and if you offer yourself to the hungry,

and satisfy the afflicted one,

then your light will shine in the darkness,

and your night will be like the noonday.

The Lord will always lead you,

satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones.

You will be like a watered garden and like a spring whose water never runs dry.

(Isaiah 58:5-11 CSB)

What beautiful promises. God does not bless us just for our own sake. We aren’t created to be pools of stored up blessings. God wants what He gives to flow through us and onto others.

Father, thank you for showing us what a true sacrificing fast is. Help my heart to understand the motives behind the fasts I engage in. Change my heart to love the poor and homeless and to provide for their needs. Help my heart to set aside its selfishness because I want your strength in my bones and to be so satisfied as I live in a parched land that I am like a watered garden that never runs dry. I want Your light to shine through me in the darkness, and for Your glory to be my rear guard.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
