God’s Mighty Hand

God’s Mighty Hand

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

1 Peter 5:6 NIV

As a little girl, I thought my dad’s hands were the strongest hands ever! They could open, rip apart, hold open, or lift almost anything. My daddy’s hands were also the biggest and the safest hands to be wrapped up in. When I needed protection, his muscular hands were my help. When I needed comfort, his gentle hands would wrap me tightly and hold me close.

The same hands that would occasionally have to discipline me when I needed correction were also there to hug me closely and wipe away my tears.

I felt loved, safe, and secure being around Daddy.

I think of God’s hands the same way. Throughout scripture you can read how His mighty hands lifted, held back, and protected those He loved.

In Exodus, God held back the Red Sea so His chosen people could cross and escape slavery from the Egyptians.

He disciplines those He loves, so He caused the Israelites to wander in the wilderness for forty years because of their disobedience.

In Daniel, He protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the flaming furnace.

Throughout scripture we read about His loving and comforting hands. The greatest example of this is when He willingly gave us His Son, Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins, so that we could forever feel His comforting embrace. I cannot wait to be wrapped in God’s mighty hands!

Thank Your Father for the assurance of Your Word that “nothing can snatch us out of Your mighty hands” (John 10:29).
