The Sandwich Generation
Motivate one another…
Hebrews 10:24 NLT
I am in the sandwich generation. Do you know what that means? If you have lived it, you do. I am in the season of life where I have aging parents on one side of me and on the other side of me, I have young adult children with small children. As a result, I am sandwiched by the two generations. It is a privilege to serve both sides! But sometimes, it can get a little busy, with so many ways to help and serve others.
And it can be a real treat to witness very special moments as well! I recently had one of those moments. It was around Christmas time. Our family took my little granddaughter, who was almost one year old, to visit her great-grandfather.
We decided to capture the moment by taking a family photo. We seated the baby next to great-grandpa. Suddenly, she reached her tiny hand over and curled it around his elderly finger! The picture was taken, great-grandpa’s smile brightened! It was such a sweet gesture of comfort from a baby!
It makes me think of these words of Scripture…
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near (Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT).
I learned a valuable lesson that day. Because our family met together, the Lord provided that opportunity for encouragement between those two. There are so many sweet and subtle ways to encourage one another. I just have to look around and notice what God is drawing me to do, opening my eyes to see what is right in front of me.
Father, in the quiet of my heart You speak to me… whispering, “Child, the acts of love and good works from Me are right in front of you; look for them.” Lord, help open my eyes to see the opportunities that You give me today. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
