Lost Cell Phone Cry

Lost Cell Phone Cry

In my distress, I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.

Psalm 18:6 NIV

My husband absentmindedly set his cell phone on the hood of my car. I did not notice it and took off for the store.

Along the way, I thought I saw something fly off my hood. I did not have a clue what until my husband called me from his business phone, it was his cell phone.

He had already tried to use “Find My Phone” to track it down, but the horrendous traffic made him hesitant to stop on the road with no shoulders to search. I made it home quickly and hopped in with him to go back. We got as close as we could to the spot we thought it might be, but had no luck. He would stop his van, but when bombarded by vehicles would drive away.

On the fourth time around, I got out of the van to look and started repeating out loud, “Jesus! Help us find this phone!” I repeated that prayer louder each time. I could not give up.

Then, all of a sudden, there it lay about four feet off the road, propped up in the shade of a big weed. Still working, with only a few scratches, we found it. What rejoicing we did!

Later, I questioned if crying out to God loudly made any difference in the outcome? I’m not sure, but it did make a difference in me. It gave me such courage to have faith, to continue to pray, and to not give up.

No matter if we found the phone or not, I know I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit on the side of that road. And, I have to admit, praying audibly has become a new habit for me as well.

God, thank you for hearing our cry.
