God Whispers – A Momma Bird and Baby Bird
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Psalm 91:4 NIV
I love to watch the birds eat on the bird feeder. One day a momma bird was feeding her little one from the feeder. As the baby sat perched on the fence, the mom would fly a few inches from the feeder to feed the little one. Its little wings flapped as if it was trying to fly to the feeder to join mom, but fear was holding it back. Then mom began to eat at the feeder. Seeing this, the little one squawked as if saying, “What about me?”
She looked up and extended her wings as if responding, “You can join me here. Much more food is here than I can carry to you.” The little one flapped its wings only to land back on the fence. After many attempts, it flew to the feeder and its mom fed it.
How many times does fear keep me from enjoying all the blessings God has for me? Fear is Satan’s way of entering our minds and telling us that it cannot be done. But, with Jesus present in our lives, anything is possible.
As I deal with health issues, every day I must take a step of faith instead of fear. The little bird had to leave the fence before it saw the bounty of food in the feeder. How much do I miss when I let fear hold me back? I thought.
To find the blessings God has in store, we must leave our comfort zone and follow God with great obedience. I may not make it from point A to point B on the first try but, if I keep trying, God will make a way where I didn’t think there was one. Just like that bird, I will be sheltered under the arm of Jesus along the way.
