God Whispers – In the Waiting
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber;
Psalm 121:1-2 NIV
Staring at the lab reports, the doctor said, “I just don’t know what to do to help you. Nothing makes sense to me.” He had been studying my condition and found there are several forms of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). The first step is to determine which one I have. “You are stable now,” he added, “but time is of the essence.”
The doctor asked if I would consider going to a clinic out of state that specializes in SPS. He thought it would be beneficial. I told him to move forward.
More waiting and wondering faced me. I should be used to waiting by now, but hundreds of thoughts began to fill my head. What if I go and they cannot help? What about the financial aspect of traveling to another state? My support system is here. And on and on.
I realized those thoughts were from Satan. God had opened a door, and I was trying to shut it with my negative thoughts. If God means for me to go, he will pave the way, and there will be no doubt or anything blocking the path.
Psalm 121, one of my favorite scriptures, landed in my heart. If God can make a mountain—He can order that mountain to move. Why was I questioning the open door? God does all the heavy lifting in our lives, if we step aside and trust His guidance. He always keeps His promises to see us through our struggles, heartache, and loss. He just asks us to do one thing—to trust His will and way.
Our human nature wants to fix things, design, and control outcomes, but there is only one person who knows what is best for us. He is writing our story. Though it might look differently than what we thought or would write, it will be best for us. Jesus wants us to have the best. That’s why he went to the cross. So we could be with Him for eternity.
