Knowing God’s Love

 …to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

 Ephesians 3:19

 

A young mother raised in a culture hostile to Christianity shared a joyful experience with me. After discovering the love of God through Jesus Christ, she immediately noticed how the sky glistened with a deep blue and the leaves on trees reflected various shades of green!

After inviting Jesus Christ to forgive my sins and live in my heart, I still remember a flood of God’s love. In bed that evening, I spread my arms wide hoping to absorb more of it.

I wonder what type of experiences Paul anticipated for the Ephesian believers when he prayed for them to know God’s love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19). Perhaps he, too, recalled the ways his life changed after meeting Jesus Christ as well as testimonies from those who discipled him.

Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians reveals what I believe he personally experienced. Paul clearly desires the same awareness of God’s love that he must have received—knowing God’s love in such a way that it fills them up!

I, too, want that same experience for those I cherish as friends and family well as for believers I have never met—to know God’s love that surpasses human knowledge and to have that same experience of being filled up with the fullness of God.

 Father, thank You for Paul’s example of how to pray for others as he prayed for the Christians in Ephesus. Thank You that You are a God of love, grace, patience, and mercy. Forgive my sins and keep me forever in the center of Your loving arms. In the name of Your Son that made knowing Your love possible, amen.
