Throughout All Generations
… to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
Ephesians 3:21
In just a few weeks I anticipate the blessing of welcoming another generation of girls as I become a great grandmother. I pray that this little girl will also come to know Jesus Christ as her Savior, making six generations of Christian women I have known.
I thought of these generations of joy when Paul concludes his prayer for Ephesian believers. Paul prays that God would receive glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations.
I do not know whether Paul referred to human or spiritual generations, or perhaps both! Regardless, individual followers of Christ and bodies of believers now extend worldwide, each part of the lineage of Jesus’ disciples and Paul.
Paul’s prayer that God would be glorified “for ever and ever,” extends God’s glory much further than earth time, because the church, which includes me, will be gathered with him in heaven where time has no end! Hallelujah!
Father, thank You for Paul’s prayer that directs me to pray for greater things than daily needs and concerns. Thank You that I was born into a generational lineage that introduced me to You at a young age. Empower me to steward that gift as I soon welcome another child to love, nurture, pray for, and disciple in faith. I pray that she, too, might be a part of that gathering of the church glorifying You forever and forever. In the name of Your Son, Jesus, who made the wonder of this possible, I pray, amen.
