Sweet Little Lies

Sweet Little Lies

Satan masquerades as an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:14

Remember my forever hydrangea from yesterday that masqueraded as a real flower?

For 30 days, I admired that bloom that never drooped.

I even posted about the “miracle” on Instagram — spreading the lie even further.

Friends, even believers can believe or share lies. That’s why we need to run everything through the Bible.

Here are a few sweet-sounding lines that drift through churches, music and social feeds:

The lie: You are enough

The truth: All have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. Romans 3:23

The lie: God will never give you more than you can handle

The truth: People confuse temptation with suffering in I Corinthians 10:13. They are not the same.

The lie: All religions lead to God

The truth: Jesus is the only way. John 14:6

The lie: Once you pray a prayer, it doesn’t matter how you live.

The truth: Real faith always bears fruit. James 2:14-17, John 15:5

Remember the one thing that made me think the hydrangea was real? It was the only fake flower in the bunch. That’s true with lies too. They look the most real when surrounded by truth.

Lord, guard my heart and mind against lies of all kinds. Thank you for showing us what’s real.
