Taking Each Step

Taking Each Step

Worship the Father in spirit and in truth.

John 4:23 NLT

So much joy occurs in watching your baby take the first step! It is so exciting! Picture grandparents crowding around with the camera ready. Mommy, behind the baby, holding her up. Daddy, with outstretched arms, inviting his baby to walk toward him, encouraging her to take that first step… and each one after that!

Sweet daughter of God, this is how your heavenly Father beckons you when you take each step toward Him, too!

When you and I truly worship the Lord, we trust His Spirit’s leading and His truth enough to take the next step toward Him.

 Scripture says…

But the time is coming – indeed it’s here now – when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24 NLT).

I have learned the Lord wants me to worship Him in His way… in spirit and truth. Another Scripture defines worship by calling it my “spiritual service of worship” (Romans 12:1 NASB). This means my spiritual worship is service as the Holy Spirit leads me.

This is service in a way the Lord accepts – service that is free from bondage, worthy of my calling, and from a transformed mind that is renewed by the truth of the Word. Therefore, I can tell what the will of God is (Romans 12:2).

I discover how to spiritually serve the Lord as I spend time in relationship with Him. I learn from Him by talking to Him in prayer, by learning His truth, and by implementing it in my life. As I do this, He leads me and reveals His will to me.

Each step I take with God leads me to a new level of trust in Him and into a deeper relationship with Him. In each experience with God, He reveals more of Himself. This causes my trust to grow even more. It is a cycle.

As I trust God more, my steps move faster. Before I know it, I am running as fast as I can into my heavenly Father’s arms, living life in unity with Him.

Father, in the quiet of my heart You speak to me whispering, “Child, trust me with each step. Don’t hesitate; move forward with Me.” Lord, help me trust You to take that next step, so that before I know it, I am running as fast as I can into Your arms! In Jesus name, amen.
