Not the Last Dance

Not the Last Dance

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Proverbs 19:21

Recently I visited the George H. W. Bush Library which is a beautiful display of archives and memorabilia from his life. One quote made me chuckle. “This will be the last time you find me on the dance floor,” he whispered to his new bride, Barbara, on their wedding day.

Little did he know God’s plans for his life. His wedding day would not be their last dance. Years later, as the 41st President of the United States, he would dance many formal balls with his beautiful wife.

It is easy to fall into the rhythm of thinking I have control over my future. When things go in a different direction,I need to realize that God may have something better in store.

The Bible is full of such examples.

David, the shepherd boy, became King of Israel

Paul, went from persecuting Christians to sharing the gospel all over the Roman Empire.

Rahab, a reformed prostitute, helped spies hide from the King of Jericho. Later she became part of the lineage of Jesus Christ.

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21).

Lord, help me to remember that Your ways are always better.
