Treasures Along the Shore

You give him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in Your presence.

Psalm 21:6 CSB

Every time I go to the beach, God uses the experience to teach me something about who He is and how He works. In fact, He has been so faithful to do this that I now look forward to each trip not only for the beauty and rest, but also for what He will teach me—and perhaps allow me to share with others. I anticipate He will speak, and I come ready to learn.

One of my favorite beach activities is searching for seashells. I LOVE shells, and our home is proof of that! I comb the shoreline looking for treasures.

On one trip, however, shells were scarce and smaller than usual. Instead of looking only for large or unusual finds, I began searching more carefully for tiny shells that were whole, unique, and beautiful in their own way. As I bent over a patch of seaweed, a thought struck me: when shells are plentiful, I become selective. But when they are scarce, I notice beauty in shells I might otherwise overlook.

That morning, God reminded me that blessings can be much the same. During seasons when blessings seem abundant and answers to prayer come frequently, it's easy to focus on the big things and miss the smaller gifts He provides each day.

Yet when life becomes difficult and blessings seem fewer, I often treasure even the smallest signs of God's goodness. A kind word, a moment of peace, an unexpected provision—things I might otherwise take for granted become precious reminders of His care.

Psalm 21:6 says, “You give him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in Your presence.” God is always blessing us. Some blessings are obvious; others require us to look more closely. But they are there.

What blessings is God showing you today? Ask Him to help you notice even the smallest ones. You may discover that His treasures have been there all along.
