Great Imitation

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Zephaniah 3:17 ESV

I babysit our almost one-year-old granddaughter and have since her mother went back to work after her birth. Oh, how our granddaughter loves to try to imitate the sounds, actions, and happenings around her.

She has the “oh” in “uh oh” down pat. She has a barking sound for dogs. Trying so hard to walk like everyone else, she likes to crawl on all fours.

When we sit in the floor and watch kids’ praise and worship songs together, I clap my legs to the beat with my hands. Now she crawls over to sit by me and clap my legs too.We have so much fun! Because she is my granddaughter, I hold much joy in my heart for her.

Our Father in Heaven also enjoys it when we imitate him. As believers, we, his children, feel his presence. He encourages us to mimic him. Through his Spirit, he motivates us to obey and follow him. We enjoy his encouragement.

I feel exhilarated when my granddaughter tries to do what I do. I do not scold her when she cannot do it just like me. I take into consideration her age and maturity so I applaud her not criticize her.

As much as I love her, God loves us even more. He too remains in our corner when observing us. He does not feel disappointment when we do not do everything perfectly.He still delights in us and continues teaching and leading us. He never takes his eyes off of us.

Father God, You, are in our midst. You are the Mighty One who saves us. How comforting to know You rejoice over us. Your love brings us peace and quiet. You parent us well. Thank You Father.
