God’s Arrow

God’s Arrow

Then the Lord will appear over them; his arrow will flash like lightning, The Sovereign Lord will sound the trumpet; he will march in the storms of the south, and the Lord Almighty will shield them.

The Lord will save his people on that day as a shepherd saves his flock.

Zechariah 9:14 & 16a

If you are anything like me you may not enjoy war movies. Blood and guts, people dying – just not my thing to watch. It just hurts my heart to think things like these battles have happened and are still happening.

Even though not my favorite, I have watched bits and pieces of some war movies. I think back to ones fought with bows and arrows. Though embellished for the viewers’ entertainment, I can still picture the thousands of arrows flying through the air. Many of those same arrows pierced their intended targets while others fell by the wayside.

As I read this scripture in Zechariah that vision of war came to mind. Then I read the verse again, and one more time to make sure I had read it correctly. Did my Bible contain a type-o? The verse says “his ARROW” not arrows with an S, not plural. Does God intend to win the battle with one single strike?  Wholeheartedly, yes!

Wow!  God does not require multiple arrows flying aimlessly through the air hoping to strike their goal. Our all-powerful God only needs one arrow to accurately destroy his chosen foe. He has no worry of hits and misses.

What does this mean for us today?

No matter the enemy, God will win the battle. Victory and salvation come from him alone. Times may get tough. Skies may get dark. Even still, God reigns victorious.

God loves us. He sent Jesus to die as the blood sacrifice for us for our sin and to rise again.

I will probably never be a fan of war movies, but I am definitely a fan of God and his power. He is supreme.

God, you are sovereign – YOU REIGN. You are supreme. Your one arrow is more powerful than any weapon created by mere human hands. Thank you for Salvation.
