My Shield
As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him.
2 Samuel 22:31
During the Greek Empire the Spartans relied heavily on their military armor. The shield would be their primary source for protection against an attack. The Romans took their military reliance on the shield to a whole different level. They took pride in their shields typically decorating them with their legion emblem. This would allow the soldiers to be quickly identified, causing a sense of intimidation and pride of the Roman power.
In scripture God is described as our Shield.
Psalm 28:7, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.”
Psalm 3:3 “But You Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts up my head high.”
As believers we are soldiers of the faith, lovingly spreading the gospel of Jesus. Even through the evil and darkness of this world, the Lord will be our protector…our Shield.
In 2 Samuel 22:2-3, David sings a beautiful song to the Lord after he was delivered from the hands of his enemy. “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior– from violent people you save me.”
What a wonderful encouragement it is to know that no matter what we face, we do not do it alone!
Thank You God for being on our side and being our shield!
