Know the Lord

Truly know me and understand that I am the Lord

Jeremiah 9:24 NLT

Who do you know well? It may be a family member or a best friend. According to AI, knowing someone well means you grasp their core motives and can predict how they think about things because you have a history together, a shared experience that connects you.

Now, compare that to how well you know God–do you truly know Him?

I have wondered, Can I even really know God?

 Scripture says…

This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, that I delight in these things. I, the Lord, have spoken! (Jeremiah 9:23-24 NLT).

If God tells me to boast in knowing and understanding Him, it must be possible. But I will need His help! As I look at verse 24… know and understand that the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, I consider Jesus…

 · God through Jesus… demonstrated unfailing love. How? “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16 NLT).

 · God through Jesus… brought justice to the earth. How? Matthew explains Jesus is the Servant in Isaiah 42:1 that says, Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my Beloved, who pleases me. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations (Matthew 12:18 NLT).

 · God through Jesus… brought righteousness to the earth. How? Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone (Romans 5:18 NLT).

In the person of Jesus and through Scripture, I am able to know and understand the Lord more than I may realize. Jesus brings you and me into a real relationship with God, the Father and then, gives the child of God the Holy Spirit. This is God’s own spirit who is placed within my body, helping me.

And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us (1 Corinthians 2:12 NLT).

God wants you and me to know Him well! And He has gone to a lot of trouble so that we can know Him by sending Jesus and the Holy Spirit to us.

Father, in the quiet of my heart, You speak to me whispering, “Child, I love you and I want you to know me! I have sent my Son, Jesus to you and placed my Spirit within you to help you know Me!” Lord, help me do my part to listen and learn so that I truly know You, boasting in You alone. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
