Together
…Sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb.
Psalm 19:10 CSB
While traveling, I once walked into a cute honey shop. Everything honey related seemed to be in there!
In the past, it seems honey was quite important. The psalmist, David, recognized the value of honey too and he aligned it with gold. He even compared it to his relationship with the Lord and His word to show, as important or valued as honey or gold was, David’s relationship with the Lord and His Word was even more important!
Let’s look at the passage written by David…
The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise,
The precepts of the Lord are right, making the heart glad; the command of the Lord is radiant, making the eyes light up.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous.
They are more desirable than gold – than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb.
In addition, your servant is warned by them, and in keeping them there is an abundant reward.
Who perceives his unintentional sins? Cleanse me from my hidden faults.
Moreover, keep your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed from blatant rebellion.
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer (Psalm 19:7-14 CSB).
My relationship with the Lord and His Word is very important to me as well. Like David, I have learned the two go together. Because of my trust in Jesus, I am in a relationship with the Father, God. He uses His Holy Spirit to help me understand His Word. Without that relationship with the Lord, I don’t understand Scripture in the same way. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to alert me of unintentional sins, hidden faults, willful sins, and blatant rebellion. After all of this is defined for me, I respond, and the Holy Spirit helps me repent.
The Holy Spirit, also uses God’s Word to lead me in the right instructions for renewing my life, giving me wisdom, making my heart glad, and making things right within so that the words of my mouth and thoughts in my heart are acceptable to the Lord.
It all works together.
Father, in the quiet of my heart, You speak to me whispering, “Child, seek Me and a relationship with Me first, then, the rest will be given to you.” Lord, help me seek You and listen to Your Spirit and Your Word. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
