Birds With Broken Wings Still Sing

Birds With Broken Wings Still Sing

We live by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV

I don’t know what made me notice the article about birds. But as I scrolled through it, the author said something that caught my eye--birds continue to sing through the pain of a broken wing. The main reason researchers think they do this is to keep predators away.

That got me to thinking maybe that is why when we are hurting, either from physical pain or grief, that we need to keep praising God in the storm. To keep the enemy away. Satan will not stay when we pray or sing praise to God.

Sometimes it is hard to find joy in our suffering, especially if the pain or grief is very raw. I noticed in the article that other birds will join in the singing to provide a support group, so to speak, to the injured bird.

That is so much what we do as believers. We surround those who are grieving and hurting, lifting them up in prayer, supporting them through the journey. I have been blessed with a wonderful circle of friends who can pray when I cannot utter the words. They encourage me daily to keep looking upward at God and not at my situation.

I don’t think any of this is a coincidence. Jesus surrounded himself with 12 disciples who prayed with Him, preached, and helped Him reach those in need. The bible tells us where two or more are gathered, God is there.

We all have brokenness in our lives and when we surround ourselves with a group of believers, we are keeping the “predator” out of our circle. Healing of our brokenness does come. Sometimes it comes with God removing the situation from our lives, or He takes us from the situation, or we walk through it with Him holding our hand.

We must praise God in the storm however long it lasts. When our storm clouds are gone, we can see God’s plan. Just like the bird when its wing is healed, it will soar again.
