Breathing Worship
Let everything that breathes praise the LORD. Hallelujah!
Psalm 150:6 CSB
One reason I love our church is singing our praises together each Sunday. Whether we are on key or not, we have the privilege to vocalize our love for Jesus. Some enjoy quiet hymns others fast-moving praise songs. If we are truly showing the Lord how much we love Him, it’s worship!
One of my favorite places to sing my worship, is on my deck. Just me and God. Our deck faces the woods, and, often I see lots of wildlife. Most days the neighbors have left to go to work, or are inside working remotely. My husband has gone to the gym. I don’t have to worry what I sound like!
It prepares my heart to hear from the Lord as I sit in silence, play worship music, then open scripture to study the Word and pray. Hot coffee beside me is an added bonus.
Psalm 150:6 is the last verse of the last chapter in Psalms. The chapter opens and closes with Hallelujah! which means praise Yahweh. Verse 6 says Let everything that breathes praise the LORD!! Hallelujah! (CSB)
The reader invites all of God’s breathing creation to praise the Lord. Can you even imagine the chorus when all of creation will do this together?
In the meantime, this is what we are to do through our songs, and our entire lives. Even when you are lonely, hurting, or broken. I feel my heart swell with the knowledge of His presence especially in those times!
The book of Psalms helps us express love and faith even alongside pain and agony. We can cry out to Him honestly as we see the Psalm writers did. It gives prayerful words in our struggle that we may have trouble finding. If we breathe, we are to worship!
Thank you, Lord, for giving us the joy of worshiping you in many ways. Even in our struggles, our hearts desire to come to you in faith because you are worthy of our praise! Hallelujah!
