God, why won’t You just zap them?!
Your eyes are too pure to look on evil, and you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. So why do you tolerate those who are treacherous? Why are you silent while one who is wicked swallows up one who is more righteous than himself?
Habakkuk 1:13 (CSB)
When my son was about six years old, he asked me, “Mom, why doesn’t God just zap all of the bad guys?”
What he didn’t know at the time was that he asked one of the toughest questions in Christian circles today: Why does God allow evil to exist?
My son knew God had the power to zap the bad guys. However, just like Habakkuk, he did not understand why God didn’t.
Honestly, I’m thankful God does not zap all the bad guys because Romans 3:23 tells us that we all sin and fall short. In God’s eyes, we are all “bad guys.” We become “good guys” only by His grace through Jesus.
The Lord wants us to choose Him and accept His grace. No one is beyond redemption, and we must trust in God’s timeline even if it doesn’t make sense to us.
Lord, thank You for Your grace. Help us to remember that You extend that grace to everyone in Your time. Amen.
