Schedule Friendship Time
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10
I look at the family calendar every morning to see about the day or week ahead. Along with checking on my agendas, I check on both my daughters. What does their week look like, and when can they spend time with friends?
My husband and I have always made it very clear that our girls need to spend time with their special people . We will go and pick them up, have them sleep over, or schedule an event that brings these friends together for a “hang-out.” Is it always convenient? No, but we understand that true friendships form when you are intentional.
If we are not careful, we can allow our schedules, tasks, and demands to overshadow the joy and beauty of friendship time. Don’t wait for an invitation, start the process. Romans 12:10-11 says, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
Jesus was the Messiah of the world, yet He still had time for friends. He even gave us this command, “Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend” (John 15:12-13).
Jesus Christ, our Savior, gave us the ultimate example of laying down his life for others. In fact, He goes on to say, “You are My friends if you do what I command” (John 15:14).
Friendship time is so important.
