Something Better

If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

2 Timothy 2:13 CSB

Unanswered prayer. A loss that leaves you reeling. Betrayal from someone you trusted. A life-altering diagnosis. How do you begin to process this kind of pain?

Honestly, my answer has varied—different seasons, different responses. But in every situation, even when hope feels distant, I’ve tried to anchor myself in what I know is true: God is loving, faithful, and present—even here.

George Müller once said, “Our heavenly Father never takes anything away from His children unless He means to give them something better.”

Priscilla Shirer echoes this with a prayer: “God, give me what I ask for—or something so much better.”

And Tim Keller put it this way: “God will either give us what we ask for in prayer—or what we would have asked for if we knew everything He knows.”

Job suffered unimaginable loss—family, health, security—until all he had left was his faith. And yet he declared: Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked I will leave this life. The LORD gives, and the LORD takes away. Blessed be the name of the LORD (Job 1:21)

Later, after walking through the depths of grief, Job came to this realization: I had heard reports about you, but now my eyes have seen you (Job 42:5). Thats what suffering can do—move us from hearsay faith to firsthand encounter.

Life will bring heartbreak. Jesus knows this. He lived it. And yet, He loves us deeply and always acts in perfect wisdom—for our good and His glory.

What are you carrying today? Have you stopped praying? Lay it at His feet. Cry out to Him—even with your questions. Trust that He is at work.

One day, you’ll look back and see: He really was preparing something better!

Lord, remind me You know right where I am and you will faithfully walk with me through this difficult journey.
