God-Wink: The Nurse in the Operating Room
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
During my cancer journey, fear gripped me. My thoughts often darted, and I woke up in the middle of the night.
I’m a cancer patient now. Will I live to see my youngest son graduate from high school? Will I live to see my older son get his Aggie ring?
As I went from one appointment to the next, doctors seemed to find a new reason for concern. One scan led to another as doctors chased a spot they found in a different place. The tumor was large. Maybe in both breasts. How far had it spread?
I asked God to give me joy — no matter the outcome.
On December 23, 2021, I waited in the pre-op holding area for a double mastectomy. As the operating room nurse walked in, I don’t remember what I said to her. But I do remember what she said to me: “I’ve already prayed Jesus over the OR.”
God’s peace rushed over me. He had heard my prayers and sent this nurse to confirm it.
When fear strikes, ask God for peace and joy. Then watch how He shows up. You may see Him work through a stranger you’d never expect.
Lord, thank you for seeing us in whatever situation we’re in and meeting us in our fear.
